When settlers came to this continent, they were looking for Freedom. They found it and the colonies became very prosperous. Britian soon took notice and began to tax the colonies and put other restrictions on them. The colonies were losing their freedoms and tried to negotiate with Britian through peaceful means. The taxes were so disliked by the colonies that on December 16th, 1773 some patriots dressed up like indians and threw tea into the Boston Harbor  to show Britian they would not pay the taxes. Eventually the British atrocities were too great and the colonies declared their independence on July 4th, 1776. Britian would not stand for this and waged a bloody war against the colonies. The colonial army was eventually successful and the colonies once again regained their freedoms.  

Once again Freedom was under attack. The War of 1812 was to protect Freedom from a foreign enemy. Tennessee’s nickname “The Volunteer State” originated during the War of 1812 when thousands of Tennesseans enlisted in response to Governor Blount’s call for volunteers. Today we need volunteers to rise up and protect Liberty from a domestic enemy.

The united states Constitution has been under attack for decades. Tennesseans and citizens of the several other states have let their God given rights be trampled on. We are advocating a peaceful means to shake the dust off our God given rights. That is why the Volunteers For Freedom Tea Party was started.
